Cooling towers are heat removal devices used to transfer process waste heat to the atmosphere.

Common applications include cooling the circulating water used in oil refineries, chemical plants, power plants, petrochemical plants, natural gas plant, processing plants, food processing plants, semi-conductor plants, building cooling, and other industrial facilities.

As mentioned above all the cooling towers are operated in the environment full of steam and water that is why most of the cooling accessories of the cooling tower are made of either good quality wood or of fiber and same is applicable for the cooling fan in cooling towers.

The fans mainly used in cooling towers are operate in full of corrosion environment therefore due to corrosion on the fan surface its performance Detroit and over a period of time cooling tower fan efficiency reduce significantly which lead to the several cooling problem like cooling in cooling tower is not proper, water temperature is not maintained, cooling is proper but power consumption is more.

It is a common mistake that due to reduction in the cooling tower cooling capacity people used to increase the cooling tower fan blade angle and maintain the cooling tower airflow requirement but increasing the airflow by increasing the blade angle of cooling tower fan, increase the power in cube of the airflow  that is -

KW1/KW2= (Q1/Q2) ^3

(Thus increasing of 10% of the air flow makes 33.1% increase in the power consumption by the cooling tower fan.)
